Designated Partner Details
Dr. Deepak Suryakant Kelkar
DME, AMIE (Mech & Elect : CE, Doctorate)
Dr. Deepak Kelkar, Designated Partner of Eesha Solar LLP, has been a pioneering force in India's renewable energy sector for over thirty years. His contributions span multiple groundbreaking projects, starting with the establishment of India’s largest solar hot water system in 1991—a 100 KLPD system designed as a boiler feed that operates at 80°C, significantly reducing fuel consumption.
In 2002, Dr. Kelkar led the creation of India’s largest wind-solar hybrid system, a 30 KWp installation utilizing four 6 KW wind turbines and a 6 KWp solar photovoltaic system to support grid energy needs in remote areas. His innovations continued with the introduction of high-concentration photovoltaic (HCPV) systems, using multijunction cells under 1000x concentration to achieve a 33% solar-to-electricity efficiency. A plant with this technology was installed at IIT Kanpur, and Dr. Kelkar’s work earned him a doctorate from the University of South America. His HCPV systems have been deployed internationally, including in Denver, USA, and Thailand.
Among his notable contributions to rooftop solar technology is a dual-axis tracked system installed along BPCL’s 1800 km pipeline from Mumbai to Bijwasan. This system charges 48V 1000Ah batteries, enabling SCADA operations and valve functions with cathode ray protection, and significantly reduces the need for diesel generators. Additionally, Dr. Kelkar oversaw the installation of a dual-axis tracked rooftop solar plant at Numaligarh Refinery Ltd.’s administrative headquarters.
In
Mandrup near Solapur, Dr. Kelkar established a 1 MWp solar plant equipped with a unipolar tracking mechanism that produces approximately 1900 MWh annually—20% more than comparable fixed systems—and supplies energy at a 33KV level to a substation. Currently, he is spearheading the development of a 50 MW dual-axis tracked solar park near Mhaswad, demonstrating his commitment to advancing large-scale renewable energy projects.
Beyond his technical achievements, Dr. Kelkar is active in community service as Secretary of the Rotary Club of Pune Pride, where he has played a key role in organizing both the Ganit Olympiad and the Intech Olympiad, the latter in collaboration with COEP, Inpods, and A4 Technologies. Additionally, Dr. Kelkar is affiliated with the Australian National University in Canberra through Wizard Power, where he collaborates on the innovative BIG DISH project, focused on sustainable electricity generation and energy storage solutions.
