Mr. M. Gowri Shankar, Managing Director of Prudent Automation Pvt. Ltd., is a visionary engineer from Andhra Pradesh, India, who founded one of the country’s leading automation companies, now thriving for over 26 years.
In 1987, with an engineering degree from Vellore Engineering College, Mr. Shankar foresaw a future where automation could transform manufacturing. However, given the economic climate and his family’s traditional background, he began by gaining hands-on experience. His career took off at Sabnife Power Systems, a Hyderabad Batteries Limited company, where he built expertise in testing and assembling battery chargers. His dedication soon drew the attention of Allen Bradley, a US-based multinational, which hired him as a commissioning support engineer in 1990.
At Allen Bradley, Mr. Shankar’s professionalism and natural rapport with clients propelled him from Graduate Engineer Trainee to Regional Manager in just eight years. Despite a successful career and offers from competing firms, he chose to pursue his entrepreneurial dream. In 1998, he established Prudent Automation Pvt. Ltd., initially serving mining and glass industry clients with limited resources but unyielding determination.
Prudent’s turning point came when Mr. Shankar developed an automated Wagon Loading System for NMDC Limited, facilitating iron ore transport across India. This success paved the way for Prudent’s expansion into pharmaceuticals, mining, and irrigation, as Mr. Shankar’s commitment to innovation led to advancements in SCADA and PLC solutions. His leadership, marked by strategic planning and fostering a creative work environment, nurtured a team of engineers equally passionate about automation.
