Introduction
Nagarjuna Hydro Energy Private Limited (NHEPL), a part of the Paschim Group, is a renewable energy enterprise committed to generating clean and sustainable small hydroelectric power. The company’s 15 MW small hydro project, commissioned in 2010 on the Balekallu Hole River— a tributary of the Nethravathi—near Maranhalli Village in Sakaleshpura Taluk, Hassan District, Karnataka, embodies its vision of integrating renewable energy generation with environmental stewardship and technical excellence.
The project operates with two 7.5 MW turbines, a 123-meter design head, and a 1.5 km Head Race Tunnel, supplying power to the Government of Karnataka through the Karnataka Power Corporation grid under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement. The turbines were supplied by Andritz (New Delhi), the generators by WEG (Brazil), while the design was executed by BHEC. The civil works were carried out by Nechupadam Constructions, and hydro-mechanical works were completed by GMW Baroda.
For the financial year 2025, India Ratings assigned NHEPL a rating of A- (Stable), reflecting the company’s financial stability and operational strength. The project was financed by the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), New Delhi, reaffirming institutional confidence in its long-term sustainability.
NHEPL provides employment to around 100 people and supplies dependable green energy to more than 70,000 households across Karnataka. The company actively contributes to environmental conservation, having planted over 6,000 trees around the plant to promote biodiversity and ecological balance. It holds ISO 9001:2008 and OHSAS 18001:2007 certifications, ensuring adherence to high standards of quality, safety, and operational compliance.
Guided by the principle of inter-generational equity, NHEPL remains dedicated to preserving the environment for future generations. It consistently fosters ecological awareness among stakeholders, partners, and employees, contributing significantly to India’s clean energy transition and the socio-economic development of rural communities.
